ThreadKeeper was the right name for the first chapter. It said exactly what it did: keep the thread. A CLI shell for builders who did not want to lose their reasoning while vibecoding late into the night. I liked its plainness because it felt like a utility you could trust.
Then the AWS hackathon happened. Suddenly I was not just logging snapshots and insights anymore. I was building classifiers, prompts, tests, even imagining how this tool could guide agentic workflows. That shift from a simple recorder to something that could actively shape how builders think made me realize the old name was too small.
That is when the metaphor clicked. In Greek mythology, Ariadne gives Theseus a clew, a ball of thread, so he can escape the labyrinth. This project is meant to do the same. When your work gets tangled in half-finished experiments and forgotten reasoning, Ariadne Clew keeps the line taut. It is not just a keeper of context, it is the guide rope out of the maze.
The repo today — Ariadne Clew on GitHub — reflects that change. What started as a lightweight CLI has become something more robust, closer to a scaffold for agentic thought. Snapshots, insight logs, timelines, rewinds, and now the beginnings of classification and retrieval. It is evolving into a tool that does not just record what you did but helps you re-enter the work with context intact.
And to be clear, this is not just a metaphor. Ariadne Clew is model-agnostic. You can work with ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, or whatever LLM you prefer. Under the hood, it is more than a logging shell:
diffcheck.py module for line-by-line sanity checksAriadne Clew is built for indie operators, casual architects, and advanced civilian builders. People who iterate fast and lose context in the churn. Not those who live inside Git. Its obsession is clarity and continuity so you do not lose the thread in the chaos of iteration.
Vibecoding means living with half-built prototypes, sudden renames, and ideas that mutate as fast as you can test them. That is not a detour. That is the work. ThreadKeeper had to exist so Ariadne Clew could emerge.
So here we are. Same thread, new name, bigger ambition.
